SASKATOON – The case against a 65-year-old psychiatrist, Dr. Akinlolu Olalekan Peluola, was in Saskatoon Provincial Court Monday. Dr. Peluoloa is charged with fraud over $5,000.
Counsel for Dr. Peluola appeared for him in court and the matter was adjourned to Oct. 3 to be spoken to. A bench warrant to hold was issued because there was no defence counsel designated on the file yet.
Dr. Peluola is still practicing at Victory Medical Associates in Saskatoon’s west end. A spokesperson from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan told SASKTODAY.ca that they are monitoring the case.
Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) Economic Crime Section charged Dr. Peluola in July. SPS say that in February of 2022, they got a notice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan of suspected fraudulent activity relating to the medical billings of a Saskatoon psychiatrist. Investigation by members of the Economic Crime Section found that a government agency had been defrauded of more than $90,000 after being billed for fraudulent services between September of 2017 and December of 2018.
