REGINA – A 17-year-old boy will be in court this afternoon after a number of bear mace attacks this morning.
Police were called to a home on the 100 block of Halifax Street North at around 1:40 a.m. for a weapons offence.
"Early information provided to police stated that a person had been bear sprayed through an open window while sleeping," said RPS in a media release. "When police arrived, they located a ladder leaned up against the residence under the window."
During their investigation, officers in the area also found a vehicle with it's doors open, smelling of bear mace. The canine unit was called in, with those members finding another vehicle in the same state on the 100 block of St. John Street N.
"Police spoke with nearby homeowners, who reported that bear mace was sprayed into the open windows of their home," RPS said. "It is believed the suspect was not known to the victims in either bear mace incident."
The canine unit found a suspect, and he was arrested without incident. Through their investigtion, police believe the youth also stole items from the vehicles he sprayed.
The 17-year-old was charged with three counts theft under $5,000; two counts assault with a weapon; and a single count mischief under $5,000.
He will appear in Regina Youth Provincial Court this afternoon.
