It looks as if Myles Sanderson is not in the city of Regina.

Regina Police Service had operated on the assumption that Sanderson, a suspect in the mass killings on the James Smith Cree Nation, had been in Regina on Arcola Avenue on Sunday, based on information they had received that day.

However, Regina Police Chief Evan Bray went on social media Tuesday night to tell the public they do not believe the suspect is in the city limits.

“Early on Sunday, we had information that proved to be reliable that Myles Sanderson was in our community and, as a result, the Regina Police Service was assisting the RCMP in trying to locate him. Today, we’ve received information that is leading us to believe he may no longer be in this community,” Bray said.

“As a result, investigations continue and although we don’t know his whereabouts, we are still looking not only within the city of Regina but expanded into the province as well.”

He went on to say a lot of the investigative work being done is oftentimes not visible. A lot of it has to do with specialized investigative units, tech crime units and plainclothed investigators and analysts, working to put pieces together.

Bray said his police service would continue to provide updates and asked the public if they had any information to call them and give them that information.

“This has been a stressful time for our province,” said Bray, who thanked the public for communicating with police.

Myles Sanderson is still wanted on three counts of first degree murder. His brother Damien had also been charged, but he was found dead Monday on the James Smith reserve. Including Damien, there has been a total of 11 dead and 19 injured in connection to the incidents this weekend on the James Smith reserve and nearby Weldon, Saskatchewan.

Earlier on Tuesday, the focus of attention had been on reports that Myles might have been seen on the James Smith Cree Nation reserve.

RCMP converged on the reserve as they stepped up search efforts, but an alert was sent out Tuesday afternoon stating that Myles was not located on the reserve.
