MAPLE CREEK - An adult male was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference after a report of historic sexual assault was made to Maple Creek RCMP on April 25, and now additional charges have been laid and he was re-arrested on April 27, and again on April 28.
According to the investigation, an adult male had sexually assaulted a male youth during a sport-related trip in the early 2000’s. On April 26, 64-year-old Dexter Bacsu from Maple Creek was arrested and charged with one count of sexual assault, Section 271, Criminal Code and one count of sexual interference, Section 151, Criminal Code. Bacsu made his first appearance in Swift Current Provincial Court on the same day.
On April 26, Maple Creek RCMP received an additional report of a historic sexual assault. Investigation determined an adult male assaulted a male youth during a sport-related trip. Bacsu is next scheduled to appear in Maple Creek Provincial Court on May 11. Further charges from April 28 will also be addressed.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Maple Creek RCMP believe there may be more victims. To assist in the investigation, investigators have released details of the accused's career and volunteer history. Bacsu was a long-time teacher in Maple Creek schools and continued to work as a substitute teacher until recently. Chinook School Division has advised that he is no longer an employee. Bacsu also volunteered in local youth sports and music programming, including as a coach and trip chaperone.
The Maple Creek RCMP said in a statement it takes all complaints of sexual assault seriously and investigates them thoroughly with the utmost professionalism and care. Survivors of sexual assault are encouraged to come forward, no matter how long ago the incident occurred.
