Man arrested after people on James Smith CN threatened with machete

JAMES SMITH CREE NATION – Less than a year after a rampage on James Smith Cree Nation where 11 people were killed and 17 injured, a man armed with a machete allegedly threatened people on the Cree Nation – including security officers who responded and secured the area until police arrived.

The incident unfolded Sunday morning. Melfort RCMP found the man outside a home and informed him that he was under arrest but he didn’t comply and assaulted one of the responding police officers. Police used a Tazer on him and he was taken into custody. The police officer received minor injuries.

Melfort RCMP arrested Clarke Anderson, 51, from James Smith Cree Nation and charged him with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault of a police officer, three counts of uttering threats and five counts of failing to comply with a release order. He appeared in Melfort Provincial Court July 17.
