NORTH BATTLEFORD – A 35-year-old man charged with child abuse and neglect will stand trial in Battleford Court of King’s Bench.
Lyle Aaron Bear had an appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court Jan. 27 and he was committed to stand trial on charges of failing to provide the necessities of life, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, two counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats, and two counts of assault with a weapon.
Lyle Bear and Charmaine Brett Bear, both 35, were charged after the North Battleford RCMP and General Investigation Services launched an investigation following a report in December 2020 of alleged child abuse. Lyle Bear and Charmaine Bear, who also goes by Charmaine Spyglass, were charged in January 2021 with failing to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm. Charmaine Bear was additionally charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault, and two counts of uttering threats.
Charmaine Bear’s preliminary hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for her to stand trial has been rescheduled to March 9 - 10 in North Battleford Provincial Court.
A trial date will be set for Lyle Bear in the near future. The charges against the accused haven’t been tested in court.
