NORTH BATTLEFORD - A 35-year-old woman wanted by police for 15 months in an alleged child abuse case had her first scheduled appearance in court Friday.
Charmaine Brett Bear – also known as Charmaine Spyglass - was arrested in Calgary, Alta., without incident and brought back to Saskatchewan to face charges of aggravated assault, two counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats, failing to provide the necessaries of life, and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
The Crown is opposed to her release and a show cause hearing is scheduled in North Battleford Provincial Court May 16.
In January 2021, 35-year-old Lyle Aaron Bear was arrested and charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, two counts of assault, two counts of uttering threats, and two counts of assault with a weapon. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for September in North Battleford Provincial Court.
Police say their investigation started in December 2020 when they received a report of alleged child abuse.
The charges against Charmaine Bear and Lyle Bear haven’t been proven in court.
