Construction company fined after worker electrocuted

Neu-Build Construction pleaded guilty to a charge under OH&S regulation

SWIFT CURRENT – A workplace incident at a job site near Maple Creek cost an Alberta-based company thousands of dollars in court.

The charge under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations deals with working in proximity to exposed and energized conductors, and on Oct. 30, 2020, a worker with Neu-Build Construction Inc. was injured.

“A worker suffered serious injuries as a result of being electrocuted while stabilizing trusses,” explained a provincial government media release.

On Feb. 22, the company pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $25,000 as a result, plus a $10,000 surcharge in Swift Current Provincial Court. An additional charge against the company was stayed.
