MELFORT – All charges have been dropped against a Codette man accused of stealing a house from Crooked River in June 2022. The house was on a trailer and ready for transport.
Trials were set for July and November for 33-year-old Matthew Malley in Melfort Provincial Court but instead, the charges were stayed by the Crown Prosecutor on June 30. When the Crown stays charges, they put the charges on hold. This means the charges can be "brought back to life," within one year but this rarely happens.
Malley was facing charges of theft under $5,000, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon. He was arrested in June 2022 after Tisdale RCMP asked the public to be on the lookout for a stolen house. The house was located a month later in a rural area in Nipawin RCMP’s jurisdiction.
