The Yorkton Storm Swim Club competed in North Battleford this past weekend. Nine of the club’s swimmers made the trek to the grassroots meet and had some strong results.

Anna Bulych may not have cracked the podium, but the eight-year-old had an amazing swim meet.  While swimming in the 11U category the young swimmer swam three ‘A’ times. Meeting this time standard will allow her to compete in the Provincial Short Course Championships against the 11U swimmers.  Anna also broke three records that were 31 years old. Bulych set new club records in the 50m Backstroke, Freestyle, and Breaststroke. All three marks were set in 1985 by Gloria Liebrecht, who had set all three marks at a meet in Prince Albert.

Matlyn Bulych found herself on the podium six times. She won gold in the 50m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly and 200 Individual Medley. Bulych followed this up with silvers in the 100m Breaststroke, and 50m Freestyle. Matlyn finished the meet off with a bronze in the 100m Freestyle.

Ella Kozak also had a great meet. Kozak came home with two golds from the 50m and 200m Freestyles. Kozak swam a ‘AA’ time in the latter race which qualifies her for the Man-Sask Championships later this year. She took 10.41 seconds off of her 200m Freestyle time to record the ‘AA’ time. Kozak also added a silver in the 100m Freestyle, along with a bronze in the 100m Backstroke.

Bryant Jones was the only other YSSC swimmer to medal in the Battlefords Swim Meet. Jones won gold in the 50m Butterfly, added a silver in the 200m Freestyle, and a bronze in the 100m Freestyle.

Mariana Stickwood was awarded the Storm Chaser Award for having the greatest improvement. Stickwood had and average improvement of 12.14 seconds over three races.

The next meet for the YSSC is in Regina.
