The Yorkton Regional High School senior boys volleyball team is off to a strong start this season. The team is made up of almost all grade 10 students, with one grade 9 and one grade 11. This makes them a very young team.

The team is coached by Dion Pfeifer.

A few weeks ago, the team competed at a grade 10 tournament in Prince Albert. The Raiders went undefeated during an eight team round robin, and lost a close three set match in the semi finals.

They defeated Weyburn to bring home a bronze medal.

The weekend after, the Raiders won the gold medal at the Sacred Heart senior tournament in Yorkton. They lost only one game – the first one of the tournament.

Coach Pfeifer said it was quite an accomplishment with a very young team.

This past weekend, the team traveled to Brandon for another tournament.

After finishing second in their pool during the round robin, they lost the quarter final match to Brandon by two points in the third game.

They won the last two matches to finish fifth overall.

Coach Pfeifer said the team played well despite missing a few players due to other commitments.

He also said the rebuilding of the boys’ volleyball program at YRHS looks very promising with their dedicated athletes.
