Dalton Bakke had quite the night on Queen Victoria Day when the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletics Association (SHSAA) 27th Annual Ed Henick Senior Bowl was played in Regina.The game showcases the top talent in high school football players across the province. Among them was Bakke, representing the Yorkton Regional High School.
He was chosen to play as a middle linebacker.
On the second play of the football game, he came up with a quarterback sack, causing the opponent to fumble the ball and give up possession.
Bakke said it was awesome.
"It went really well," he told YTW via Facebook message. "We won 37-21. In the opening series, I sacked the quarterback. It was pretty sweet."
He said he had friends, family members and his YRHS football coach Roby Sharpe come out to see him play and that it was definitely one of his "toughest games".
The score was kept low throughout the first half but broke wide open in the second half, he said.
"Both defences were taking care of business," he said of the opening two quarters.
The whole game atmosphere, which he noted was something you only get to do once in a lifetime, was "nervewracking" but also "unforgettable" at the same time. His huge moment did not take long to happen either, he said. He got to the Team North QB and brought him down on the second play, forced a fumble, then a turnover.
He said it was important to play hard and win the game as scouts usually attend high school all-star games, he noted.
"The win was important. This was my last game as a high school player."
