The Yorkton Regional High School boys volleyball team hosted its senior volleyball tournament last weekend.

The YRHS team finished with a 2-2 record in the round robin.

In the quarterfinal, they beat Rouleau 2-0, which pushed them into the semifinal. There, they faced Weyburn and lost. Weyburn would end up being the tournament champions.

The Raiders finished in third place overall.

With a team dominantly made up of grade 10 students, coach Dion Pfeifer said they played very well against some tough competition.

Many top contending teams for medals at the provincial championships atteneded the tournament.

Pfeifer said that various YRHS players played well during the tournament, and everyone “stepped up their game against some very good teams.â€

Teo de Guzman, Noah Pfeifer, Payton Popowich and Brady Bjornerud were amongst those players who had strong showings over the weekend.

Next up for the Raiders is a trip to Prince Albert this coming weekend, to attend the northern regional 5A playdowns. They hope to qualify in one of the top three spots in order to qualify for provincials.
