The boys' curling team from the Yorkton Regional High School played Preeceville over the weekend in a game they needed to win in order to play for a gold medal.

They didn't win the game but they did take home silver medals from the bonspiel held at the local club.

"They did very good," notes coach Grant Bjornerud.

The team was made up of Matthew Srochensky, Nathan Bewcyk, Richard Gibson, Matthew Popick and spare Shane Murray.

"It was a good run for them," he said of the group, who didn't have a whole lot of experience going into the districts, Bjornerud mentioned.

He noted it was the similar situation with the YRHS girls' team.

The boys had a good game against Langenburg, which Bjornerud said they won on their last rock.

He said he was content with the way that game went too.

"Very much so."

SENIOR DISTRICTS

With the Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association junior curling season done, the seniors are next up when they play their district bonspiel this weekend locally.

Bjornerud said the opening draw is scheduled for 9 a.m., Friday morning and the final draw should be around 3 p.m., he said.

At stake for the senior team is a chance to advance to the regional playdowns.

Representing the orange will be Paul Toth, Brennan Peleshytyk, Darren Tillman, Brandon Campbell as well as Ryan Nagy.

"It should be pretty good," suggests coach Bjornerud.

They were scheduled to practice yesterday. Bjornerud said they need to finish with a placing of at least second spot in order to qualify for the next step.
