Hilltops remain undefeated in 2024
Saskatoon hosted the Edmonton Wildcats on Sunday. With over 4,000 in attendance at SMF Field, the Hilltops wanted to make sure they had a happy ending to the day.
And on this day the blue and gold, dominated their opposition winning 45-19 to remain undefeated and improve to 6-0.
The Hilltops offence was getting it done in the air and on the ground, finishing with 468 yards of total offence.
Veteran quarterback Trey Reider, whose father is a coach on the team and a former QB himself for the Toppers, was 15-of-21 for 278 yards with four touchdowns. Receiver Drake Douglas, from Regina Balfour, caught seven of those passes for 109 yards and three majors.
On the ground, the Toppers were led by Corbin Ebben. The big running back ran the ball 16 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. The shifty and speedy Charles Sawi contributed seven carries for 33 yards and one catch for 11 yards.
Defensively a number of players in blue and gold had a great day on the turf at SMF Field. Justin Adamko and Nate Gallant both had interceptions, while defensive lineman Kai Kikurudza had one forced fumble, one sack, four tackles, and knocked down a pass in the victory at home.
The next game for the defending National Champions is at home as Saskatoon hosts the Regina Thunder this weekend. That provincial battle will be at 7 p.m. at SMF Field on Saturday.
Thunder storm past Huskies
This one was a tale of two different halves.
The Thunder led 11-10 at halftime, but when it was all said and done the fellas from the Queen City earned a 32-11 victory in Edmonton.
Regina quarterback Carter Moberg completed 19-of-30 passes for 229 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the victory. Benjamin Walz was his top receiver hauling in seven catches for 87 yards and a major. Running back Sadik Sadik had exactly 100 yards rushing on 13 carries for an average of 7.7 yards per carry.
On defence Lorrin Leblanc had an interception in the victory, while Mitchell Tanchak and Stephen Smith were flying around the field making seven tackles apiece to help hold the Huskies to one point in the second half.
The Thunder prepare to hit the road again, but it will be a much shorter road trip, as this time as they will face the Hilltops in Saskatoon on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Thunder lost to the Toppers 29-15 on September 7, so they will try and avenge that loss and possibly finish the season with home field advantage heading into the playoffs.
