Yorkton's sophomore cricket team is off to another slow start this season dropping its first three matches in Saskatchewan Cricket League ODP (One Day Provincial) play.
In the first of the 40-over format matches the Yorkers batted first putting up a total of 148 runs before the newly minted Regina Rangers took the last of the Yorkton side's wickets on the last ball of the 31st over. The Rangers quickly chased down the 148 total surpassing Yorkton in the 22nd over to win by seven wickets.
On the positive side, Yorkers captain Faisal Anwar took match MVP with 57 runs off 75 balls batting and taking one wicket bowling.
On May 31, the Yorkers were in tough against the Regina Royals, a team they had no luck against last season either. Yorkton again batted first, but was only able to muster 97 runs in 25.1 overs before going all out. Again the Regina side wasted no time chasing down a weak total scoring 101 runs in just 18.3 overs to win by five overs.
Tinku Sharma led the Yorkers in the crease May 31 with 25 runs on 29 balls.
The Yorkers latest outing June 7 was a trouncing by the Saskatoon Stars. The Yorkton side did manage to take all of the Stars wickets in 38.5 overs but allowed 317 runs. The Yorkton batters defended their wickets, perhaps too well, managing to take Stars bowlers to the full 40 overs with one wicket to spare. They never got anything going in the crease, however, putting up a total of only 135 runs to lose by 182.
