Yorkton United U18/16 ladies dominate Regina tournament

The Yorkton United Girls U18/16 team competed in the annual Regina Razz tournament this past weekend in the U18 Division. The first game on Friday was against Regina Oranje.

The Yorkton United Girls U18/16 team competed in the annual Regina Razz tournament this past weekend in the U18 Division.

The first game on Friday was against Regina Oranje. This was the first game of the season for the girls and they came out fast with Kendra Varjassy opening the scoring for the Yorkton club.

Yorkton continued to apply the pressure and won the game 6-2.  Taryn Kustra recorded the hat trick with Kendra Varjassy adding two goals and two assists and Allison Berge one goal and two assists.

The second game was against Regina Blanco.  Once again Yorkton scored first and often and cruised to a 9-0 victory. Taryn Kustra potted six goals and added an assist with Kendra Varjassy adding three goals and three assists. Allison Berge, Roma Zulyniak and Lauren Maier adding two assists each.

The final round robin game was a showdown for first place in the pool against Regina Azul. This was an evenly played match and preview of the Final.

The Yorkton squad came out with a hard fought 3-0 victory. Kustra led the scoring with three goals and Varjassy added two assists.

The gold medal final was a rematch of the last round robin game versus Regina Azul. Yorkton continued their dominance over the Regina teams and claimed the Championship with a 4-0 victory. Kendra Varjassy led the scoring with three goals and Taryn Kustra added a single marker.

It was a great overall team performance as evidenced by the team scoring 22 goals and only surrendering two in the four games played with Ali Debnam recording four victories and three shutouts in the tournament.
