The Yorkton United Girls U18 team competed in their firt tournament of the outdoor season as they travelled to Saskatoon to compete at the 2015 Lakewood Kickstart. tournament.
The ladies opened the tournament on Friday evening against Saskatoon Aurora ATR.
This game was a tightly contested battle with Yorkton opening the scoring on a goal by Bryce Sherring on a nice set up from Justine Zarowny midway through the first half.
The game continued to be a back and forth physical battle with Aurora finding the back of the net with about three minutes left in the contest, with the final score being 1-1.
Kendra Varjassy was chosen as the Yorkton Player of the Game.
The second game of the round-robin on Saturday morning was against a very physical Saskatoon Aurora Shock.
This game started out with both clubs having an early chance before the Shock were able to score two goals near the end of the first half.
The second half was back and forth with the Shock able to add a late goal for a 3-0 victory.
Roma Zulyniak was chosen as the Yorkton Player of the Game.
The semi-final on Sunday morning was a rematch of the opening game of the tournament against Saskatoon Aurora ATR.
Yorkton opened the scoring early in the game on a goal by Taryn Kustra on a setup from Kendra Varjassy.
The game remained 1-0 until midway through the second half when Saskatoon tied the game. Thescored remained tied until about 10 minutes were left in the contest when Kendra Varjassy scored the game winner for Yorkton on a penalty kick.
The 2-1 victory propelled the Yorkton club into the gold medal game against Saskatoon Aurora Shock.
The Yorkton Player of the Game was Taryn Kustra.
The gold medal game against Saskatoon Aurora Shock was a closely contested battle with both teams creating opportunities with the Shock able to capitalize on their opportunities for a 3-0 victory.
Yorkton claimed the silver medal with Breanne Gelowitz receiving the Yorkton Player of the Game award.
Next tournament action for the club is on May 22-24 in Swift Current.
