Yorkton United U14 Div 1 Boys travelled to Regina this recently to participate in the inaugural Regina FC 11v11 University Showcase Premier Division tournament.
The Yorkton Boys ended up tied with Saskatoon Whitecaps and Regina FC Azul Marino Premier U14 squads after round-robin play with records of 2-1 each for six points.
After tie breaking rules were applied by touney officials Yorkton United U14 boys were awarded Champion status.
Yorkton started their campaign against Regina Azul Marino on Friday afternoon. The boys played very well as a team in this opening game with excellent contributions both offensively and defensively and won their opening game 3-1. All three Yorkton goals were scored by Nick Fetsch.
In their second game Yorkton faced the Saskatoon Whitecaps, an academy team from Saskatoon.
Although Yorkton got out to a 2-0 lead after the first half vs. the Whitecaps, they ended up losing this match 7-2 in the end. Once again both goals in this match were scored by striker, Nicholas Fetsch.
Their final match was played on Sunday morning against Regina FC Azul. Yorkton saved their best play for last, clearly wanting to make up for their loss of the previous day in their final game.
In a display of excellent team play Yorkton won their third match 11-3 which helped cement our status as tournament champions.
Goal scorers in the final game included Nick Fetsch (four), Jordin Rusnak (two), Nic Nesseth (two) and Cole Looft, Dylan Lepowick, and Dami Ogunbiyi with one goal each.
