The Yorkton United Sonics U12 Boys Soccer Team have brought home their second Division One gold medal in as many tournaments.
This past weekend the Sonics attended Saskatoon鈥檚 SISCO Boys Premier tournament which welcomed teams from Alberta and Saskatchewan. In round robin play Yorkton had three decisive victories against Sherwood Park, AB (8-2), Regina FCR Cobalt (10-1), and FC Regina (12-0) which put them into semi-final competition on Sunday morning.
The Sonics met up with Saskatoon Aurora to win the chance to go to the final. Yorkton was up 3-0 at the end of the first half. Saskatoon came back to tie the game before Yorkton concluded the game with two more goals to make the score 5-3 to advance to the final.
In the gold medal game the Sonics met up with Saskatoon Eastside.
It was another excellent game between two well-matched teams with Yorkton coming out on top 3-0.
The Sonics were in Saskatoon in a 鈥渂oarded鈥 tournament on the last weekend of November as well.
A boarded tournament is played on a pitch that looks like a hockey rink with the boards being live - players can rebound the ball back to themselves.
Yorkton beat our Saskatoon Eastside to make it to the final and then had a hard-fought gold medal game against Saskatoon Aurora.
The final score was 5-4 Yorkton.
