Both the Yorkton Peewee Gridder and Yorkton Atom Gridders opened their 2015 seasons this past weekend in Regina.
The two teams are looking to build upon last season where they both had the best campaigns in Yorkton Minor Football history with both teams going deep into the playoffs.
Peewees
The Pee Wee Gridders started the season off on the right track with a 54-20 victory over the Regina Mustangs, who were last year’s RMF Finalist and who ended the Gridders season last year in the semi-finals.
 Running back Willen Deo Palligan was a beast running the football scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 295 yards.
Carter Pawliw displayed his ability to cut on a dime while running at full speed as he found pay dirt twice for the Gridders.
Dreyden Chyz, considered one of the best atom running backs last year, didn’t disappoint in his debut start in pee wee football as he had 75 yards rushing and two catches for 45 yards and a touchdown.
The duo quarterbacking of Connor Watrych and Reiley Clarke combined for 5/10 155 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Despite getting scored on from the first possession of the game, the Gridders defence was able to settle downa nd not give up any points until the fourth quarter in mop up time.
Brad Heskin had a stellar performance on Saturday causing havoc for the Mustangs offence, registering two quarterback sacks, five tackles for a loss and numerous tackles.
Kaden Fedak was a force out there as well leading the team in solo tackles. while Steven Smith anchored the middle of the defence and harassed Mustang ball carriers all game long.
John Stoll snuffed out a Mustang drive by intercepting an intended pass and if it wasn’t for a shoe string tackle it would have been a pick for six.
Atoms
The Atom Gridders opened up there season with an impressive 38-0 victory over the Regina Thunderbirds Saturday at Leibel Field in Regina.
The Gridder defence was relentless all day lead by Chett Ostapowich, Josh Forester and Noah Schnieder harassing the Thunderbirds quaterback.
The Gridders’ first offensive play of the year couldn’t have been better as Isaac Clarke scored one of his two touchdowns on a 60 yard run.
The Gridders had balanced scoring as veteran slotback Justin Adam added two touchdowns.
Vinay Junek added several explosive runs and scored a highlight reel touchdown late in the third quarter andChris Cole sealed the game in the four quarter with power running that wore the Thunderbirds defence down.
It was a great total team effort to secure the win.
Next action for the Atom Gridders will be 10:30a.m. Sunday, August 22 as they will host the Regina Tiger-Cats at Kinsmen Century Field.
