Yorkton invaded by monsters

The City of Yorkton was invaded by roaring, scream inducing monsters this past weekend.

However they weren鈥檛 your usual monsters. None were covered in scales or fur and not a single one of them was blood thirsty, although one did indeed have intimidating fangs.

No, instead the monsters that ran rampant through Yorkton this past weekend were of the mechanical variety, with four gigantic wheels in place of four clawed paws or devilish hooves.

And the screams they induced were, for the most part, joyous as opposed to fearful.

Because the monsters in Yorkton last weekend weren鈥檛 the ones nightmares are made of, but those that dreams are about as 鈥 for the second consecutive summer 鈥 Performance Promotions brought the Outlaws of Motorsports to Yorkton. 鈥淲e wanted to return to Yorkton as soon as last year鈥檚 show ended,鈥 offered Performance Promotions promoter, owner and President Rob Waloschuk during a lull in the motorsport action Saturday evening, adding that the support from the community last year was dwarfed by the support for the 2015 edition of the event. 鈥淟ast year we didn鈥檛 know what to expect, but we had a great turnout from the fans.

鈥淣ow for the second year in a row we鈥檝e pulled in record crowds, sold-out crowds and everyone who came to watch has enjoyed their time.鈥

The reason that the fans in attendance truly enjoyed their time at the Outlaws of Motorsports event, Waloschuk believes, is simple. 鈥淚t鈥檚 because of the competitors we had here this year,鈥 said Waloschuk. 鈥淚 couldn鈥檛 have put a better team together than the guys that I have here tonight. Bill and Lorna Payne and the rest of the Monster Truck Mafia put on a great, entertaining show. Jared (Weyburn鈥檚 Jared Vogel, Crude Behavior), well I鈥檓 so proud of him for coming out of Weyburn with a brand new truck and we鈥檙e happy to have him as a part of our team now and on the road with us for the rest of the tour.

鈥淭he tuff truck and demolition derby drivers also did a great job and, because most were local, got even bigger cheers than some of the monster trucks.鈥

The competitors indeed put together a great show, complete with wheelie competitions, racing and freestyle events as well as three rounds of tuff truck competitions and a demolition derby both nights.

However, despite the success the event has had in Yorkton over the past two years, Waloschuk is unsure if Performance Promotions will make it a Yorkton hat-trick, saying: 鈥淲e鈥檒l see what happens because I don鈥檛 know if we鈥檒l give it a rest next year or what we鈥檒l do.

鈥淲e鈥檒l see if the fans want it back next year.鈥
