Fayden Gramyk found out he was going to Texas when he checked his phone.

“I got a bunch of alerts on my phone saying congratulations,” he said. “It was really exciting.”

Gramyk, 15, was invited to Arlington, Texas, as part of the Under 16 East All Star team at the ninth annual International Bowl in January.

Gramyk has been playing football for years. He’s been with the Yorkton Regional High School Raiders for three seasons. He enjoys the goal-oriented nature of the game.

“You’re always working towards something,” he said. “You’re constantly driving to reach new goals.

“I like that it’s a team sport because everybody relies on each other.”

Last spring, Gramyk tried out for the Under 16  鶹ýAV Saskatchewan team. The group competed against players from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and British-Columbia at a tournament in Lethbridge. 40 players were selected to compete as a team at the International Bowl. Gramyk was the only player from Yorkton to be chosen.

“We met in Texas and we started practicing together,” Gramyk said.

Gramyk’s team played three games, winning all of them. Their biggest victory came over the US National team, which Gramyk said were the highest seeded team.

“We beat them by two points,” he said. “We all [played] well together as a team.”

Gramyk enjoyed his time at the International Bowl and he plans to compete for a spot in the Under 17 team in March.

“[They go] to Hawaii in August,” he said. “I think I have a good shot [at] it.”
