The Yorkton Cardinals of the Western Major Baseball League find themselves at the bottom of the league standings after a few road losses last weekend.

The Cardinals were supposed to host two home games last Wednesday and Thursday, but those games were postponed due to weather conditions and water build up at Jubilee Park.

On Friday, the Cards traveled to Swift Current and fell 6-1.

Saturday’s game was against the Medicine Hat Mavericks, and it was a close one. In the end, the Cards lost 12-11. It was a slow start for Yorkton, but in the last three innings they racked up eight runs to bring them close to the Mavs.

On Sunday, it was another contest between the Cardinals and the Mavericks in Medicine Hat.

Yorkton took the lead early, but Medicine Hat battled back from the 5-2 deficit with a four run seventh inning.

Cardinals’ relief pitcher Tyler McDonald was tagged with his fourth loss of the season after 1.2 innings of action.

Dondrei Hubbard had two hits in Sunday’s game, including a double for the Cardinals.

On Monday, the Cardinals played the Swift Current 57’s and the game ended in another loss for Yorkton.

The loss dropped Yorkton to a 2-11 record.

Tyson Black took the loss after giving up seven runs on nine hits over five innings.

Yorkton had seven hits from seven different batters including a double from Parker Smejkal, his fourth of the season.

The next action for the Cardinals will be on Wednesday night in Yorkton, as they host the Swift Current 57’s and look for redemption. The game starts at 7:05 p.m.
