Two-time Provincial champion Jessica Lewthwaite, 15, runs through the routine she will perform at the Provincials this weekend in Regina. Lewthwaite will compete for her third Provincial title, this time in the 16-18 age group.

The Yorkton Aquabatix Synchronized Swimming Club held its annual Water Show this past weekend.

The Water Show, held at the Gallagher Centre's swimming pool, gave the athletes the chance to show their friends and family what they've learned throughout the swimming season; something that the girls always look forward to. "The girls love to do this show," said Aquabatix club President Tannys Madsen prior to the event. "All of our girls swim in the show from aquasquirt and recreational to competitive."

One other person also swam in the Water Show this year.

Madison Neufeld, 15, a nationally ranked swimmer who represents Saskatchewan, made her return to the Yorkton pool where she first began her synchronized swimming career. "It's wonderful to have her back," offered Madsen. "Her swimming here and just showing all the younger girls what they can do in the water with hard work and where they can end up if they work hard is great."

Neufeld and her swim partner, 17-year-old Mackenzie Dahl, awed the crowd of over 200 with their impressive routine that included perilous backward throws in a demonstration of skill, strength and finesse.

But while the Water Show was to entertain parents and friends and showcase the improvement that all the girls have had throughout the season, it also allowed for something else.

It allowed the 11 competitive Yorkton swimmers who will be competing in Provincials next weekend in Regina with a chance to run through their Provincial routines without the pressure of scores and judges; a valuable opportunity for the girls to find out where their weak spots are in their routines and iron it out before the Regina competition this upcoming weekend.
