The Yorkton Yorkers were trashed Sunday by the Regina Royals in Saskatchewan Cricket聽 League play.
Batting first, the strong Regina squad put up a total of 176 runs with a little help from Yorkton bowlers who gave up 25 extras on wide balls, no balls and leg byes.
Nevertheless, Yorkers fielders steadily took wickets for a total of eight by the end of the Royals鈥 innings.
Although a fairly large total to chase, Yorkton batting has been strong of late and the team has put up more than 180 runs this season.
It was not to be, however, as the team never managed to get the bats going.
The opening pair of captain Mandeep Singh and Akhil Kucheriya managed only 14 runs聽 between them before falling in the third and fourth overs respectively.
Similar fates awaited Anurag Salaria, Tinku Sharma and Hitesh Mankotia, who lost their wickets after scoring only nine, one and one runs respectively.
The bright spot for the Yorkers was Tisham Mohammed who knocked 21 runs on 20 balls. Unfortunately, he would not get a chance to face more balls as the rest of his teammates lost their wickets putting the Yorkers all out in just 13.3 overs with only 59 runs giving the Royals the win by 117 runs.
Thom Barker, president of the Yorkton Cricket Association was philosophical about the loss.
鈥淚t鈥檚 disappointing, of course,鈥 he said. 鈥淚鈥檓 still proud of the guys, though. The Royals are a very powerful opponent and we still have three wins on the season, which is an improvement over our first two years in the league.鈥
The Yorkers finish the 2015 season August 16 with two matches at Regina鈥檚 Douglas Park against the Ball Busters and the Cavaliers鈥 Fire.
