The Yorkton Yankees captured their second Â鶹´«Ã½AV East Senior Baseball League championship in as many years in exciting fashion on Tuesday, August 13 against the Langenburg Indians.
Down 4-2, Yorkton came storming back in the late innings to beat Langenburg 5-4 and take the best-of-five series in a sweep.
Langenburg's performance in Game 3 was light years ahead of how they played in their previous two contests, losing the first one 10-0 and the second affair 6-0.
"Langenburg brought it last night," said head coach Brian Trollope to Benny Walchuk of GX94. "It was do or die for them and they brought it."
It was surprising that Langenburg, who went 8-6 in the season, was even in the finals. They were the underdogs in their previous playoff series against the 11-3 Canora Supers, but came away as the series victors.
The Yankees went into the post-season as the clear-cut favourites. They finished the season with an impressive 13-0-1 record.
"We knew going in to the year we had a good team," said Yankees team captain Mark Jacobs shortly after the regular-season ended. "We weren't quite sure how good we would be, but we expected to have a good season and do well in the league play."
In their first playoff matchup, the Yankees topped the Russell Bulls in a sweep.
