The age-old story of David versus Goliath played out again tonight in the Western Canadian Baseball League.

The Yorkton Cardinals with only four wins on the season going into the night were in the role of David, with the Weyburn Beavers with 26-wins cast as Goliath.

The Cardinals scored one in the top of the third, but the Beavers claimed the lead with three in the home-half of the inning.

In the third inning it was the Cardinals scoring three, and the Beavers getting one leaving the teams tied 4-4.

In the fourth inning Yorkton inched ahead with one run, only to have Weyburn tie the game again scoring one in the sixth.

Then Cardinals regained the lead again in the eighth, again scoring one to inch ahead 6-5.

And like David, the 6-5 lead held and Yorkton had its fifth win of the season.

Payton Harris was the winning pitcher for Yorkton. He came in in relieve and three the final four innings allowing only two hits, a single earned run, while striking out seven.

Pearce Wilhelm was tagged with the loss for the Beavers, based on two innings of relief in which he allowed the winning run, although it was an unearned one.

Jack Barrie went deep for Weyburn with his 15th home run of the season.

The win leaves Yorkton with a 5-39 record, while the Beavers sit at 26-16.
