The Yorkton United U18 Girls soccer team participated in the Saskatoon Lakewood Kickstart tournament on Nov 6-8.
United opened the tournament against Saskatoon Aurora and this game was a close affair until late in the game when the United girls pulled away for a 4-1 victory. Allison Berge had three goals, with Kendra Varjassy adding a goal and two assists and Roma Zulyniak adding a pair of assists as well.
Ashley Schrader earned the victory in net.
The second game of the round robin saw the Yorkton girls dominate from the opening whistle and go on to a 7-3 victory over the hosts Saskatoon Lakewood. Kendra Varjassy continued to dominate the opposition, leading the scoring with four goals and three assists, with Allison Berge adding two goals and an assist and Deanna Kitzul adding a goal. Once again Schrader picked up the victory in goal.
This placed Yorkton United in the Gold medal game against Saskatoon Aurora.
This once again was a closely contested match with Aurora taking home the gold medal and Yorkton United with silver with a 3-1 gold medal game defeat. Kendra Varjassy scored the lone goal for Yorkton. Game MVP’s throughout the tournament were Ashley Schrader (Game One), Kendra Varjassy (Game Two) and Mia Cottenie (Final). The next action for the Yorkton United U18 Girls side will be this weekend as they once again travel to Saskatoon for the Sisco Girls’ tournament Nov 20-22.
