The Yorkton United Sonics U10 soccer team were dominant all season long in the Regina Soccer Association U10 Premier League, however their dominance did not exactly carry over to postseason play.
After a shocking 1-0 loss to REU Rangers, the Sonics bounced back by decimating the same Rangers squad 3-0. Amith Tripathy opened the scoring for Yorkton at the six minute mark.
The score remained 1-0 until the 36th minute when Justin Adam made it 2-0 for Yorkton.
A Logan Westvelt goal just minutes later made sure Yorkton went through to face Regina AC Pumas Red.
Carter Dumelie gave Yorkton an early 1-0 lead with a goal just 10 minutes in, but a pair of Regina goals five minutes apart made it 2-1 for Pumas Red.
Pumas Red scored another goal very early in the second half to make it 3-1, but a Justin Adam goal at the 41st minute ensured Yorkton would move through to the final despite losing 3-2.
In the final they met the always tough Regina AC Pumas White.
Justin Adam scored his third goal in as many games to open the scoring for the Sonics just three minutes in.
Yorkton's Matthew Dietrich made it 2-0 Sonics 13 minutes later when he broke through for the goal and at the end of the first half Yorkton United Sonics led 2-0.
Jon Nesseth put the final nail in the Puma White coffin with a goal at the 31st minute and when all was said and done the Yorkton United Sonics U10 soccer team were named Regina Soccer Association Cup champions in the U10 Premier division.
Player of the tournament for Yorkton, as chosen by local media was Justin Adam, who scored three goals in four games including the game winning goal in the final match.
U12 Chelsea
The Yorkton United Chelsea U12 soccer team went 3-1 in league play this past week, defeating Regina AC Pumas on Thursday while beating REU Impact twice on Saturday before falling to the Regina Pumas in a close match on Sunday.
In Thursday's match Chelsea got a pair of first half goals by Zach Wasylyshen to take a 2-0 lead into the half, before exploding for four more goals, one each by Cole Looft, Austin Andres and Jon Hedley. Wasylyshen also scored in the second half to round out his hattrick, while Regina could manage just one goal in the 6-1 United Chelsea victory.
Yorkton United U12 Chelsea then hosted the Regina REU Impact for a pair of games on Saturday.
Chelsea got off to a smashing start, thumping Regina REU Impact 5-1 on singles by Jairus Pellatt, Looft and Wasylyshen and a pair of goals off the foot of Nic Nesseth while conceding just one goal in the 5-1 win.
Chelsea then handed the REU Impact another defeat, this time 4-1. Yorkton United conceded the first goal early on in the first half, however Nic Nesseth drew Chelsea even at the 41st minute before Brett Switzer put Yorkton ahead 2-1 just six minutes later.
Wasylyshen scored his fifth and sixth goals of the week/weekend in a seven minute span to put the game out of Regina's reach and hand his team their third straight win.
However a perfect week was not to be, as Regina Pumas upset Yorkton 2-1 on Saturday. Wasylyshen scored Yorkton's only goal of the match just five minutes in but Pumas responded with a pair of goals and then held off the hard charging Yorkton United Chelsea squad the rest of the way for the win.
