The Yorkton United girlss U18/16 team captured gold at the Saskatchewan Soccer Provincial Championships in Lloydminster on June 26-28.
The first game of the Championships was against Battlefords. Yorkton came out strong with a 4-0 victory. Taryn Kustra led the way offensively with two goals with Kendra Varjassy and Allison Berge each recording one goal.
Assists were added by Justine Zarowny, Melanie Bommer and Jordin Holinaty. Edie Schramm picked up the shutout and victory in goal.
The second game of the round-robin featured a matchup against Swift Current United. This game seen Yorkton cruise to a 5-0 win.
Kendra Varjassy led the way offensively with two goals and an assist with Melanie Bommer scoring a pair of goals and Justine Zarowny adding a goal and an assist.
Roma Zulyniak, Allison Berge and Taryn Kustra each added an assist. Once again Edie Schramm posted the shutout and victory.
The two round-robin wins put Yorkton in the final against the Weyburn Red Devils for Provincial supremacy.
Yorkton took control early on a goal from Melanie Bommer assisted by Taryn Kustra.
Yorkton struck again in the first half as Kendra Varjassy extended the lead to 2-0 with Roma Zulyniak picking up the assist.
Yorkton controlled the game the rest of the way and the stingy defence continued as Yorkton went on to claim Gold with a 2-0 victory. Edie Schramm picked up her third straight shutout and victory in goal.
It was a great team effort and back-to-back Provincial Championships for this group of girls.
 Kendra Varjassy was chosen as the Most Valuable Player for the Championship.
