The Yorkton United Core Real Estate Fury U14 boys took part in the Division 2 Sask. Soccer Provincials in Moose Jaw on June 28 to July 2.
The Fury opened their round robin play on Friday against Lakewood Storm from Saskatoon. The Fury played a strong controlled game with great possession and passing to post a 2-1 victory.
Yorkton's second game Saturday morning had the Fury run away with a decisive 6-0 victory against the UCT Gladiators from Regina.
The Fury went into their third game against the Battlefords Santos knowing very little about their opponent. The contest was relatively evenly matched in the early stages of the game. However, late in the first half, the Fury started to take control with their precision passing and ball control. In the second half, the Fury took control with superior conditioning and wore down the Santos in the 2-0 win.
The victory put the Fury in first place in their pool. The playoff round had them against Swift Current United, who was second in their pool. Yorkton yet again came out with a great ball control game plan and posted a 2-1 victory, which advanced them to the gold medal game.
Against the Lakewood Storm, the Fury showed their superior ball control, solid defence and strong offence to come away with a 3-0 victory and capture gold.
Spencer Steele of the Fury was named MVP of the tournament.
