Eleven athletes from the East Central Region attended the Western Canadian Midget and Youth Track and Field Championship.

This year's championship was hosted by Saskatchewan Athletics at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon.

The meet was a big challenge and a wonderful experience for these young athletes. Karlee Duczek from Grayson was asked how she enjoyed the meet.

"As a first year competitor, this was one of the best experiences I have had," said Duczek. "Getting the team Saskatchewan singlet made things feel real and competitive. Everyone who attended brought their game which made the competition tough but a challenge for everyone."

Jaden Porte from Yorkton was asked how his experience was at the meet. "I think it was great for our local Yorkton athletes, who excelled during the high school season, to get exposer and experience competing against greater athletes in different provinces," offered Porte, continuing, "the meets that have better athletes to push you are the ones you're going to perform to your fullest potential, not the ones your destroying in small town Yorkton and rural areas. Also there was a great saying at legion camp this year that would definitely suit our team and athletes wanting to join Yorkton Legion Track Club. You don't have to be a champion to start, but you have to start to be a champion."
