The Yorkton Terriers lead atop the Viterra Division shrunk to a single point over the past week.
But the Terriers magic number is now only 2.5 games in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League after Yorkton added three points to its season record, which now sits at 32-12-2-5, good enough for 71 points.
That is one up on Melville with 70-points, but the Terriers hold a game in-hand on the Mils.
Estevan sits third in the Viterra with 58-points while Weyburn is last with 47.
Friday night in La Ronge the Terriers cut their magic number to three with a 4-2 win over the Ice Wolves.
After a scoreless first period La Ronge scored first with Daulton Siwak striking 6:16 into the second.
Zach Zadorozniak tied the game with a Terrier goal at 14:23 of the second, with Chase Norrish giving Yorkton a 2-1 lead at 19:33 of the frame.
Dylan Johnson made it 3-1 with a powerplay marker at the 16:50 of the third.
Sebastien Beauregard gave La Ronge life with a goal at 18:34 of the third, before Tayler Thompson ended the game with a second on the clock to secure a 4-2 Terrier win.
Kale Thomson was in the Terrier net for the win facing 35-shots, while Tyler Fuhr took the loss for the Ice Wolves facing 38.
Saturday night in Melfort Brett Boehm scored 45 seconds into action to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead, an edge which would hold through the opening 20-minutes.
In the second frame the host Mustangs struck early with Anthony Pickering tying the score with a powerplay marker 2:39 into the frame, Regan Wilton would add a second Mustang goal at 5:17, with Pickering making it 3-1 for the home team at 9:58.
Tayler Thomson struck at 12:36 of the second period to draw the Terriers within one.
Mid way through the third Holden Cronin scored his first goal of the season to tie the contest 3-3.
The game would go to overtime with the five-minute, four-on-four extra frame solving nothing, sending the game to the shoot-out where the Mustangs scored on two chances and the Terriers failed on both tries, giving Melfort a 4-3 win.
Thomson lost the contest in the Terrier nets facing 29-shots, while Austin Rediron had the Mustang win facing 35.
Home ice loss
Last Tuesday (Feb. 11) the Terriers hosted Humboldt at the Farrell Agencies Arena, falling behind 1-0 to the visiting Broncos when David Miazga scored for Melfort 12:14 into the contest.
The 1-0 lead would hold into the third, before Matthew Audette and Thomas Stanislavski scored by the mid way point of the third to extend the Broncos lead to 3-0.
Tayler Thompson finally spoiled Cade Spencer's shut-out bid scoring at 11:55 of the third, the only shot among 35 to elude the Broncos netminder.
Jarrett Fontaine would add an empty-netter to complete a 4-1 Humboldt win.
Thomson took the loss in the Terrier net facing 28-shots.
