Terriers knock off Klippers, North Stars

The Yorkton Terriers climbed over the .500 mark with a pair of Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League wins on the week. The wins raised the Terriers' record to 11-10-0-1 for 23 points, and fourth place in the League's Sherwood Conference.

Weyburn sits atop the Sherwood with 30 points, followed by Estevan with 28, and Melville with 25.

Trailing the Terriers are Notre Dame with 18, and Kindersley with 15.

Last Wednesday, the Terriers were in Kindersley, where it would take overtime to decide the outcome.

The Klippers led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Jesse Mysiorek and D Jay McGrath, while Curtis Oliver responded for the Terriers.

Ryon Sookro tied the game for the Terriers on the powerplay in the third period after a scoreless second.

Mysiorek would regain the lead for the home team, before Brent Struble knotted the game and sent it to the extra frame.

Tyler Giebel would get the game-winner for Yorkton 23-seconds into the five-minute, four-on-four extra frame.

Warren Shymko was in the nets for the Terriers facing 28-shots in the win.

The next night in The Battlefords it was a see saw battle between the Terriers and North Stars.

The two teams traded goals in the first period with Yorkton getting a goal from RyleyStefanyshyn, his first goal of the season,while Woody Klassen scored for the home team.

Braeden Johnson and Brett Miller had second period goals for the North Stars to give Battlefords a 3-2 lead after Sookro responded for Yorkton.

Stefanyshyn tied the game four-minutes into the third with a short-handed marker.

However, a powerplay goal by Klassen 2:18 later restored a Battlefords' lead.

The Terrier powerplay would notch a goal by Sookro to again knot the game, this time 4-4, and for the second night in a row Yorkton headed to overtime.

The five-minute, four-on-four extra frame proved nothing, sending the game to a shoot-out, where Sookro had the only goal to give Yorkton a 5-4 win.

Dawson MacAuleywas in the Terrier net, facing 30-shots to earn his first SJHL win in his four starts.

Action this week has them on the road in Weyburn in a game scheduled be played last night, however, results were not available in time for press.

On Friday, Yorkton hosts the Humboldt Broncos at the Farrell Agencies Arena in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Hall of Fame Game.

Four individuals with ties to the Terriers will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, player Darrell Spelay, coach Gerry James, builder Gene Krepakevich and Terry Struthers for media.

Next Wednesday evening (Nov. 23, the Terriers play host to rivals, the Kindersley Klippers.
