With the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League on its seasonal December break, it provides an opportunity to see how the local Yorkton Terriers have measured up by the numbers so far this season.
Through 33 games the Terriers have a 7-23-2-1 record and 17 points, which lifts them out of the league basement, now one point up on La Ronge with 16-points.
In their own Viterra Division Yorkton sits fourth, nine-points back of Melville. Estevan leads the Division with 43-points, two up on second place Weyburn.
The Terriers are 3-6-0-1 in their last 10-games headed to the seasonal break.
Nipawin tops the Sherwood Division with 26 wins and 56 points, while the Battlefords North Stars head the Global Ag Risk Solutions Division with 24 wins and 50 points.
Offensively the Terriers, as of Dec. 21, have scored 79 goals. Only La Ronge has fewer with 74. Estevan leads the league with 156.
Defensively the Terriers have allowed 169 goals, worst in the league. Nipawin has been the stingiest team allowing only 77.
Layne Young of Battlefords leads the league in scoring with 62-points, based on 16 goals and a league-leading 43 assists.
Estevan’s Zach Goberis has the most goals in the loop with 26.
Chanz Petruic leads Yorkton in all three offensive categories with 11 goals, 19 assists and 30 points.
Erik Olson of Weyburn has the league for goals by a defenceman with 15, while Josh McDougall has the most assists with 35, and the lead in points from the blueline at 45.
The top Terrier blueliner in terms of assists is Charlie Risk with nine. He also tops the team in blueline points with 10.
Austin Wieler has two to be the top goal scorer among Yorkton defencemen.
Ben Laidlaw sports a 5.61 GAA for the Terriers with an .880 save percentage on 12 games in the nets.
Logan Bateman has been in 12 games with a 3.97 GAA and a .906 save percentage.
Jake Anthony leads the SJHL with a 1.97 GAA, based on 20 games. He is also tops with a .924 save percentage.
