Saskatchewan鈥檚 top curling team, Team Laycock, ranked fifth in the world, will be holding a curling clinic this weekend for youths aged 10-17 at the Yorkton Curling Club.
鈥淭his is a great opportunity for youth curlers to learn from one of the top teams in the world,鈥 Yorkton Curling Club manager Neil Weinmaster told Yorkton This Week. 鈥淭o have them out and to have them be able to take the time to spend a few hours with our juniors is great and will be a great experience.鈥
Weinmaster says that the young curlers will have an opportunity to pose for photos with Team Laycock and ask them for autographs before heading onto the ice for the clinic.
Following the clinic, the junior curlers will have a pizza lunch with Team Laycock followed by a question and answer period where the kids can speak with the 2015 Brier bronze medallists. 鈥淚t鈥檚 excellent for the team to be able to take time off with their busy curling schedule and their work and families and to be able to take some weekends and come and work with the different clubs and promote the sport,鈥 offered Weinmaster. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e coming up to their provincials here soon too, so they have a lot on their plate in the next little while and we really appreciate their efforts.鈥
Weinmaster believes that while the clinic tour also visits several other communities throughout the province, the fact that it stops in Yorkton is extra special. 鈥淲ith Steve (Laycock) growing up around here and curling out of the club, it鈥檚 even better for us,鈥 said Weinmaster. 鈥淚t鈥檚 like the team is a local team because of Steve and with him being here it shows the kids that they can get to that level as well.鈥
The event will take place this Saturday from 10:00am and run until 1:00pm. Registration is free but limited, so if interested please contact Neil Weinmaster at the Yorkton Curling Club at (306) 783-4127.
