Super League curlers complete regular season

Duck Mountain Super League (DMSL) curlers competed in Benito December 19, took a break for the holidays, and completed their regular season January 2 in Norquay.

            Duck Mountain Super League (DMSL) curlers competed in Benito December 19, took a break for the holidays, and completed their regular season January 2 in Norquay.

            The Chris Leis team of Kamsack, sponsored by Myshrooms, scored its first victory in Benito, defeating Don Bowes of Madge Lake. Bob Kolodziejski and his troops from Canora, sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred Seeds, improved their record to five wins by beating Richard Jordens.

            Also in Benito, Fred Perepiolkin’s team from Kamsack, sponsored by Nykolaishen Farms, won against Ken Newell of Norquay. Hometown favourite Rick Kinaschuk, backed by W.F. Schnieder and Son of Benito, defeated another Norquay crew skipped by Brad Knutson.

            Draw 7 of the Duck Mountain Super League, played January 2 in Norquay, completed the 2017-2018 round-robin season.

            Don Bowes, sponsored by Cottenie and Gardner Inc., narrowly defeated Richard Jordens of Madge Lake, sponsored by Pattison Agriculture. Bowes, who made a run-back double and counted two for the victory, advanced to the A-side of the playoff draw that was set for January 5 in Kamsack.

            Another key game in Norquay saw defending champion Fred Perepiolkin overcome a six-point deficit to defeat Norquay’s Brad Knutson, sponsored by Str8up Livestock. The win puts Perepiolkin on the A-side of the playoff draw.

            Chris Leis of Kamsack, needing an extra end, streaked to two straight wins by knocking off Ken Newell, sponsored by Challoner Farm of Norquay. In a battle of the top-placed teams, Benito’s Rick Kinaschuk prevailed over Canora’s Bob Kolodziejski. The win gaves Kinaschuk top place with a record of six wins and one loss.

            A-side DMSL semi-final games, set for Friday in Kamsack, was to see Don Bowes face Rick Kinaschuk and Fred Perepiolkin go against Bob Kolodziejski. On the B-side, Richard Jordens was to play Ken Newell and Brad Knutson was up against Chris Leis.

            Curlers on Friday were competing for over $1,000 in prize money provided by Duck Mountain Super League sponsors.
