Sturgis Trojans U-16 Lacrosse team, with Canora players, wins provincial gold

The Sturgis Trojans U-16 lacrosse team, helped by several Canora players, won the provincial gold medal in Saskatoon on June 17.

The Sturgis Trojans U-16 lacrosse team, helped by several Canora players, won the provincial gold medal in Saskatoon on June 17. 

            Canora boys playing on this team included Thomas Hauber, Durban Hleboff, William Hauber, Jessie Biletski, and Jacob Danyluk.

            Sturgis played Yorkton in its first match with Shae Peterson leading the way with six goals in a 13-3 win. Jake Huska added two goals and singles were added by Zane Bayer, Seth Rayner and Carter Masely.

            The second game had the Trojans facing Saskatoon. The Trojans were in tough against the defending Champions from Saskatoon but were able to pull out the win 8-7 to finish the round robin at 2-0. Jake Huska and Kishaun Gervais lead the team with three goals each, with singles added by Zane Bayer and Seth Rayner.

            Saskatoon defeated Yorkton in the semi final to get to the gold medal game against Sturgis.

            The Trojans played a strong and determined game, twice overcoming two goal deficits to win the gold medal game 11-7 and bring the provincial title back to Sturgis, said a team representative.

            In the final game Kishaun Gervais dominated with eight of the 11 goals, with Jake Huska adding two, and Seth Rayner with one.

            The players from the Sturgis team that received all-star awards were Durban Hleboff (goalie), William Hauber (defence) Seth Rayner (attack) Jake Huska (mid-fielder) and Kishaun Gervais was named the provincial tournament most valuable player.
