The Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers of the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Saskatchewan Minor Hockey League (SSMHL) Peewee Division split a weekend series at home with the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors. The Sherring Gold Terriers took the first game on Saturday 4-1.
Scoring for the Sherring Gold Terriers in the victory were Mitchell Madsen and Jackson Berezowski. Spencer Welke got the win between the pipes while allowing just one goal, a shot from Moose Jaw's Quinton Ross, to beat him.
On Sunday the Peewee Terriers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 4-3 to the same Warriors despite allowing just three shots after the first period.
The visiting Warriors opened up a two goal lead on goals by Ben Peterson and Ben Wourms-Rowe for a first period 2-0 lead.
Ryder Korczak responded in the second period for Yorkton before Madsen tallied his third goal of the weekend to tie the game at two.
A five-on-three shorthanded goal by Moose Jaw's Ross gave the visitors a 3-2 lead before Ross made it 4-2 in the third period. Yorkton's Tanner Hoffman cut the Warrior lead to one late in the third but it was not enough as the Sherring Gold Terriers fell to 3-1-0 on the season.
Midget 'AA'
The Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers continued their wonderful start to the 2014/15 SSMHL season, winning all three of their weekend games to move to 5-0-0 on the season; just one win off of their entire 2013/14 total (regular and post season).
On Friday night the Kinsmen Terriers got a pair of goals from league leading scorer Tayon Metzler and singles from Hunter Arnold and Bret Melnychuk to defeat the visiting Notre Dame Hounds 4-1. Carter Park picked up the win in net.
Saturday saw the Kinsmen Terriers struggle at times against the visiting Weyburn Lightstream Wings but still walk away with a 5-4 victory. Grayson Neufeld, Brendan Dzuba and Caleb Sutter all had one goal, one assist nights while Luke Schappert and Caedan Durocher also found the back of the net. Alex Geddes got the win in net, his second of the season.
The Kinsmen Terriers took on the Weyburn Lightstream Wings once again on Sunday. However a full 60 minute effort from the Terriers resulted in a lopsided 5-1 victory for the home side. Metzler led the way with a goal and two assists while captain Kholten Shewchuk and Arnold both had one goal, one assist games.
Caleb Sutter and Jorie Dull rounded out the Kinsmen Terrier scoring while Park picked up his third win of the season and second of the weekend.
Next action
The next action for the Yorkton Kinsmen Terriers will be Friday when they host the Estevan Apex Bruins for a 7:45p.m. game at the Kinsmen Arena. They'll then host the Regina Vics the following Saturday night at the Kinsmen Arena. Puck drop for that game is set for 6:30p.m.
The Sherring Gold Terriers will be in action tomorrow night against the visiting Melville Millionaires. Game time is set for 7:30p.m. at the Farrell Agencies Arena.
