Eleven members of the Yorkton Springers Gymnastics Club recently participated in the Marian You Make My Heart Flip! Invitational hosted by Saskatoon's Marian Gymnastics Club.
The athletes fared well in the February 15-16 competition with several girls finding the podium in one or more of the following events: Vault, bars, beam and floor.
Teegan Langridge finished second overall in the Provincial Level One Open competition with third place finishes in the vault (11.100), bars (11.433) and beam (10.934). Her 11.567 score in her floor routine was good enough to give her second place with an impressive total score of 45.034.
Three Springers gymnasts took part in the Provincial Level One Tyro event. Raya Cuthill took fifth place overall with a 9.800 in vault, an 10.600 in bars, 11.700 on the beam and 11.734 on the floor for a total of 43.834.
Two other gymnasts, Erin Novak and Jersey Zawatsky, finished ninth and tenth respectively in the same event as Cuthill. Novak finished tied for second in vault with an 11.100 before scoring 10.267 in bars, 10.167 on the beam and 11.067 on the floor for a total of 42,601. Zawatsky, meanwhile, scored a 9.934 in the vault competition, 11.533 on the bars, 9.234 on the beam and 11.434 on the floor for a total score of 42.135 and 10th overall.
Emily Dumka was also a 10th place finisher in the competition. Dumka claimed 10th overall in the Provincial Level One Argo category with a 10.700 in vault, 11.267 on the bars, 10.867 on the beam and 11.567 on the floor for a grand total of 44.401 points.
Yet another Yorkton gymnast, Brynn Jarvis, impressed in Regina. Jarvis finished second overall in both the vault (12.333) and floor (12.467) routines. An 11.967 score on the bars was followed up by an uncharacteristic 9.900 score on the beam resulting in a tie for seventh overall with Regina's Nicole Doidge in the Provincial Level Two Tyro competition.
Emily Zajac, Hayley Fayant-Stephens and Jenna Schofer also competed in Saskatoon. The three gymnasts took part in the Provincial Level Two Open competition.
Zajac took home the overall bronze medal with an impressive 11.800 in vault, an 11.766 on the bars, an 11.467 on the beam and an 11.000 on the floor for a total score of 46.033.
Fayan-Stephens, meanwhile, finished eighth despite having the third best vault score at 11.700. An 11.100 on the bars, 10.334 on the beam and 11.534 in her floor routine however gave her a total score of just 44.668.
Schofer's scores of 10.766 in the vault, 9.800 on the bars, 10.934 on the beam and 11.667 on the floor resulted in a 43.167 all-around score and a tenth place finish.
Bryn Nystrom was Springers' only entrant in the Provincial Level Three Novice division. Nystrom finished eighth overall but her performance was highlighted by an outstanding 12.467 on the beam (first overall). Her other scores of 11.500 (vault), 9.700 (bars) and 12.200 (floor) resulted in a total of 45.867 for eighth place.
One other gymnast, Cassidy Stachowich, also competed at the Marian competition in Saskatoon. Stachowich finished first in the vault competition with a 12.500 score, however fourth place finished in both the bars (11.034) and beam (10.767) competitions meant she needed a strong performance in her floor routine to land on the overall podium.
A 12.000 in her floor routine clinched Stachowich a bronze medal overall with a total score of 46.301.
