The Mark's Work Wearhouse Yorkton Terrier Pee Wee hockey team is scheduled to play in a finals series early this week. Results from the final game were not available at press time. The Terriers are looking to join a list of other Yorkton Minor Hockey Association teams that have become league and/or provincial champions for 2011-2012.


The Yorkton Harvest Hockey Club is putting together a bid to host the Western Regional Hockey Championships in 2014. The tournament involves Midget AAA hockey teams from Saskatchewan, Manitoba and northern Ontario. Yorkton Harvest president Garth Simms said it will be Saskatchewan's turn to host the event and at least a couple other teams in Yorkton's league will likely apply to try and host. "We're working on a submission right now," quotes Simms.


Practices have started at the Gloria Hayden Centre for the Yorkton girls' softball team. The team is still looking for players. Practicing takes place on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 p.m., on April 15 and April 22. Practice dates are available to anyone interested in playing and are available at no cost.


In preparation for the YESSA City Wide basketball tournament at the end of the month, St. Michael's will be playing two sets of games this week. Monday against MC Knoll and Tuesday against St. Alphonsus. Over the next two weeks, they will play St. Alphonsus again on April 16 and at Yorkdale Central Public School on April 18.


There will be a football camp held at the end of the month in preparation for the upcoming season. It will be at the Gallagher Centre Flexihall and will include a group of Saskatchewan Roughriders football players, including Chris Best, Dan Clark, as well as a 'surprise guest' says Mike Kozushka of Yorkton Minor Football. They are looking at attracting 60 interested athletes to take part. Cost for registration is $50 and can be made by calling 783-5888.
