The second annual Canora Sno-Pitch Tournament was held on March 18 at the Canora Sportsgrounds.

Kerry Fullawka, one of the organizers, said this event is something that can involve almost everyone in the community.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a way for people to come out and try something different and enjoy a winter day doing or watching something they haven鈥檛 seen before,鈥 explained Fullawka.

Fullawka said that a total of eight teams entered the tournament. Estimated attendance for the daylong event was 150 souls. He said the weather was a bit windy, but things improved considerably once the sun came out. All in all, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

According to Fullawka, this year鈥檚 tournament was held to raise money for the Canora sports diamonds. Fullawka said the organizing group felt the fields are in desperate need of significant upgrades due to safety reasons after being ignored for several years. They hope to start working on the diamonds as soon as the snow melts in order to have them ready for the upcoming summer league season.聽

Fullawka said Paws and Claws animal rescue from Yorkton ran the concessions for the tournament, and the Lunn Hotel in Canora made a donation. Canora employees did great work moving snow at the sports grounds to make this event possible after the previous week鈥檚 blizzard, he said

Fullawka acknowledged all the slo-pitch league members and other volunteers who stuck around to help clean up after the tournament, and even came back again the next day to finish the job.

Fullawka thanked all the teams who entered, including all the players as well as all the spectators who supported this event.
