Members of the YRHS and SHHS track clubs teamed up this past Friday and Saturday to represent the East Central district at the 2014 SHSAA Provincial Track Meet in Moose Jaw.
Many athletes had strong performances, such as Raider track star Cole Burkholder who won his second consecutive silver medal in the 800m race and improved three places, from fourth to first, to claim the gold medal in the 1500m junior boys race.
In total 11 high school athletes won medals in solo events, while two relay teams, the 4X100 senior boys team and the 4X400 open boys, also brought home some hardware.
In addition, the YRHS moved up three spots, from seventh to fourth, in the 4A schools Team Combined Scores category with a point total of 335.5, while Sacred Heart finished fifth overall in the 3A Team Combined Scores category with a score of 163.
Gold
Jonah Sutter (SHHS) - midget boys Long Jump with a leap of 5.93m, Cole Burkholder (YRHS) - junior boys 1500m run with a time of 4:19.23, Jaden Porte (YRHS) - senior boys 800m run with a time of 1:57.08,
Silver
Cole Burkholder (YRHS) - junior boys 800m run with a time of 2:04.23, David Ojo (SHHS) - junior boys Discus with a throw of 35.90m. The East Central district 4X400m boys open relay team won silver with a combined time of 3:37.59.
Bronze
Justine Zarowny (SHHS) -1500m run midget girls with a time of 5:05.64, Justine Zarowny (SHHS) - 3000m run midget girls with a time of 11:20.45, Kellie Onda-Inglis (YRHS) - 800m run junior girls with a time of 2:30.58, Derek Campbell (YRHS) - midget boys 3000m run with a time of 9:57.58, Brendan Weber (YRHS) - junior boys 200m dash with a run of 23.16, Jaden Porte (YRHS) - senior boys 1500m run with a time of 4:13.83. The East Central district 4X100 senior boys team won bronze with a time of 45.25.
