There were many impressive finishes, but the top performer from Sacred Heart was Ashley Schrader, who won a silver medal in the midget girls鈥 javelin division. She had a personal competition best throw of 31.94 metres, which was three metres beyond her district championship throw.听

Other noteworthy finishes at provincials from Sacred Heart were:

Teagan Langridge, who vaulted a personal best 1.65 metres in the junior girl鈥檚 pole vault placing 6th in the event.

Camryn Danchilla was a member of the midget girl鈥檚 4 x 100 metre relay team that placed 7th and was also part of the 4 x 400 metre relay team that placed 4th overall.

Charis Adefolarin was also a part of the 4 x 100 midget girls relay fourth place finish. 听

Adefolarin听 also made several finals at the meet running some excellent races.

Madison Butchko was a part of the senior girls 4 x 100 metre relay team that finished 5th.

Rachel Sterzuk is one of four coaches for the Sacred Heart track and field athletes.听

She said despite the various weather conditions (from hot and windy to toonie-sized hail) she was impressed by the performance her athletes put forth.

鈥淭rack and field is a tough one because you鈥檙e always chasing those personal bests and lots of our kids did have personal bests, so it was a great weekend,鈥 she said. 鈥淪ometimes, depending on weather, you won鈥檛 make a personal best.鈥澨

She explained that the 3000 metre race on Saturday, for example, wasn鈥檛 ideal because it was 鈥渞idiculously windy and very hot.鈥澨

鈥淓very one of them were working so hard to perform the best they could, to overcome the nerves. And we have a very young team,鈥 Sterzuk explained.

鈥淭here are a lot of grade nines, and a lot of kids moved up to midget that were really bantams. But it was a good year for all of them to just go and see provincials and see what it鈥檚 all about.鈥澨

Sterzuk also added that Schrader bringing home the silver medal is wonderful.

鈥淪he鈥檚 just a talented, talented athlete,鈥 she said. 鈥淚t was wonderful for her to be able to throw a personal best at provincials. It鈥檚 clear that she鈥檚 a very talented javelin thrower.鈥

Schrader went on to win the MVP award for the track and field team at the Sacred Heart spring athletic awards banquet.听
