The SHHS Jr. Girls Volleyball team took part in the Yorkton Regional High School junior girls' volleyball tournament.

The Saints were part of a four-team pool 'B' which included Canora, Estevan and Melville St. Henry's.
SHHS finished second to Melville through the round robin. Canora placed in third and Estevan came in fourth.

Sacred Heart would advance to the semi finals late on Saturday afternoon where they met the YRHS club.
Both teams played through a round robin. SHHS first met Melville St. Henry's, and went down in two sets.
SHHS then rebounded to beat Canora and then rolled over Estevan.

That finish qualified them for a second place finish, behind the eventual tournament champs from Melville.
SHHS was seeded second and went up against the Esterhazy Warriors in the opening round of the playoffs.

That sent them to the semi finals, where they met the YRHS team, says coach Brian Chisholm.

"We were very happy with the way the girls played in the round-robin portion. All of the skills we've been focusing on in practice were all coming to the forefront," explains Chisholm.

They included serving, passing, communication, aggression and especially, playing to their level, he notes.
However, when the SHHS girls entered the playoffs against the YRHS, something happened, Chisholm told the paper.

"When the playoffs started, all of those things went out the window."

According to Chisholm, they went back to the way things were back when the season first started.

"We began to play like we were three weeks ago. A lot more work needs to be done in practice to improve our consistency," he closed.

With Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) districts now on the radar, the Lady Saints have another tournament coming up to help them prepare for it.

They are in Melville this weekend, says Chisholm, and it will be their last chance to work out the kinks.
"That will be the last action before districts, to be held on Oct. 29 in Churchbridge. We hope to compete for a third straight district title, but lots of work needs to be done in our remaining four practices."

CLARIFICATION

In last week's Yorkton This Week, the junior girls team was incorrectly identified as a boys basketball team. YTW sincerely regrets this error an apologizes for any confusion it caused.
