The Yorkton Sherring Gold PeeWee Terriers are moving on in the 2014 PeeWee provincials after defeating the Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins 6-0 in Estevan on Saturday and 2-1 at the Yorkton Kinsmen Arena on Sunday.
The two wins give the Terriers an 8-1 total points series victory and send them to the next round where they will do battle with the only team that has had their number this so far this season, the Weyburn Youngfellow Wings.
Weyburn qualified for the next round by destroying the Swift Current Â鶹´«Ã½AVwest Terminal Broncos by scores of 10-0 and 11-3.
Saturday in Estevan
Yorkton scored three in the first, two in the second and one in the third to take a 6-0 game one victory over the Bruins in game one of their two game provincial total points series.
Zach McIntyre led the Terriers onslaught with four goals, while Troy Bryksa and Alex Moar each chipped in with a goal apiece.
McIntyre gave Yorkton a 1-0 lead with 11:50 remaining in the first period when his shot eluded Estevan goaltender Justin Hertes.
Bryksa made it 2-0 before the McIntyre goal was announced when he too deposited the puck behind Hertes just 15 seconds after McIntyre's first of the game.
McIntyre upped the Yorkton lead to 3-0 before the period was over with his second goal of the game and after 20 minutes the score was Yorkton three, Estevan zero.
The second period was all McIntyre as the talented Terriers forward notched two more goals, his third and fourth of the game, to make it 5-0 after two periods.
Moar rounded out the scoring with an unassisted marker at 12:19 of the third period to give Yorkton a 6-0 win and a commanding lead in the two game total points series.
Sunday afternoon
The Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers officially ended the provincial dreams of the Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins with a hard fought 2-1 win on home ice at Yorkton's Kinsmen Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Kishaun Gervais opened the scoring for the host Terriers just under five minutes into the game when he slid the puck past Bryson Garton to make it 1-0 Yorkton.
Ryder Korczak would make it 2-0 with one minute remaining in the first period, but Garton would shut the door the rest of the way, turning aside shot after Terrier shot to keep his team in it.
Mason Strutt made it interesting when he beat Nolan Maier to make it 2-1 with 8:23 left in the second period, however that was the only shot that would find its way past Maier.
Final score: Yorkton Sherring Gold Terriers two, Estevan Sherritt Coal Bruins one.
When asked for his thoughts on the two games against Estevan, Sherring Gold Terriers head coach Chad Korczak felt that his team "played well in the 6-0 win in Estevan".
Korczak did, however, mention how tough it is to get a team of 11 and 12 year olds excited for a game that, most likely, won't have any effect on the end result of the series. "You still want to keep the kids motivated or any game," said Korczak. "But with them knowing it's pretty hard to lose by seven, sometimes they just lose focus.
"We didn't score after the second period on Sunday. When you got teams on the ropes you've got to find ways to score and put them away. If you let them hang around they get some confidence."

The Yorkton Sherring Gold PeeWee Terriers were scheduled to play the Melville Millionaires tonight (Tues. 4), however results were unavailable at press time.
The next action for the Sherring Gold Terriers will be Saturday, February 8 when the visit the Moose Jaw Warriors.
