The Saltcoats Lakers are the host team for the 2019 13U Baseball Provincial Championship being hosted at the Saltcoats Regional Park this weekend.
The event which has eight teams vying for the provincial title saw the host Lakers take on the Saskatoon Brave Knights on the Farrell Agencies Richardson Diamond Friday afternoon, with the host Lakers winning 8-3.
鈥淚t was good, good,鈥� said Lakers coach Mike Farquharson when contacted Friday evening. 鈥淭he kids played well, they pitched well.
鈥淚t was a team effort. I鈥檓 super happy.鈥�
When it comes to team effort the Lakers have become a tight knit team, with 12 players from the local community, and the 13th from nearby Bredenbury.
鈥淓very player signed up to play the extra month for provincials,鈥� said Farquharson. 鈥淭his team is what we played with all season. They鈥檙e all still here. I鈥檓 really happy with what we鈥檝e been able to do this year.鈥�
The next action for Saltcoats will be 11:45 Saturday when they face the Weyburn Beavers, winners in their first game 12-1 over 麻豆传媒AVey.
The Saskatoon Brave Knights play the 麻豆传媒AVey Eagles at 11:30 Saturday.
Other teams competing in Pool 鈥楢鈥� are the Lloydminster Twins, Humboldt Dodgers, Wawota Pats and Gull Lake Greyhounds.
The tournament wraps up Sunday with the championship game at 3 p.m.
