Saints senior boys volleyball take silver

Sacred Heart High School travelled to Nipawin on Sept. 29-30 for the L.P. Miller Bear鈥檚 volleyball tournament. The tournament consisted of eight teams. Pool A consisted of Nipawin, Tisdale, PA St. Mary鈥檚 2 and Humboldt.

Sacred Heart High School travelled to Nipawin on Sept. 29-30 for the L.P. Miller Bear鈥檚 volleyball tournament. 聽

The tournament consisted of eight teams.聽 Pool A consisted of Nipawin, Tisdale, PA St. Mary鈥檚 2 and Humboldt.聽 Pool B consisted of Englefeld, Creighton, PA St. Mary鈥檚 3, and Yorkton Sacred Heart.聽

In the round robin matches, Sacred Heart went undefeated going 3-0. In the first round of playoffs the team faced Nipawin who was fourth in Pool A.聽 Sacred defeated Nipawin 23-25, 25-23 and 15-10.聽

In the semi-final match, the Saints team took on PA St. Mary鈥檚 2.聽 Sacred Heart prevailed in a close match winning 22-25, 25-21 and 15-9.聽 This advanced the team to the gold medal match against Humboldt.聽

The Humboldt team took an early lead in the first set with some strong serving winning the first set 25-9. Sacred tried to regroup in the second set, but Humboldt over powered the Saints team winning 25-16. Sacred Heart went 5-1 over the tournament and brought home the silver.聽

鈥淓than Danchilla led the team in hitting with strong power hits at the net, while Grady Hawkins laid down some huge jaw dropping middle hits for the team鈥 offered coach Curtis Moen.聽 The next game action for the Saints team is in Melville on Oct. 13-14.
