The senior Saints of Sacred Heart football did something last week they had never done before this season.

They actually did three things they had not yet done this season.

They lost a football game, and they didn't manage to score any points in it. And they tied one.

Sacred Heart has racked up almost 130 points through four games played so far this season.

Unfortunately not one of those points came in their last season game last Thursday afternoon when they went to Foam Lake.

It was a match between the only two unbeaten teams in Conference III so somebody had to lose for the first time.

They were handed their first loss of the season, and it happened to be a shutout loss.

"We were two points behind for most of the game," explained Trent Senger, head coach and defensive co-ordinator.

Senger said SHHS turned the ball over late in the game and that it ended up in their end zone shortly afterward.

"We couldn't put anything together on offence," he added.

For a team that has torn up the field with both a high-powered offence and a shut-down defence, Senger said he wasn't concerned about the shutout loss getting to any of the players, until perhaps now, he said.
"I didn't have one until today," he said following an exhibition match tie with Moosomin. "You get drops (now and then)," he said. "It wasn't that we did anything different."

Preston Liebrecht, who has been enjoying another productive season, said following the loss at Foam Lake that it was frustrating not being able to score at all, a Saints' first this season.

"We just couldn't get a touchdown and when we did, it got called back, plus I fumbled the ball a couple times. I just didn't do as well as I wanted to and seemed like I couldn't get the ball moving."

In the exhibition game Saturday afternoon against a new team, Moosomin.

Against Moosomin, Sacred Heart managed another first in the season.

They had to settle for a tie.

It didn't look good on the last play of the game either, with Moosomin threatening in the red zone with 4.6 seconds left on the clock, enough time for only one more play.

"I thought they were going to try something," suggested Senger.

"then they went for a field goal."

Moosomin was in position to win the game with a field goal, but it went wide right.

The Sacred Heart punt returner was faced with having to move the ball out of end zone before being tackled, which would have allowed Moosomin the winning play.

SHHS escaped without allowing a point and thus hung on for a tie.

"They actually looked better (than I expected)," admitted Senger following the 19-19 tie.

They worked hard and they hit hard, Senger added.

Senger told media following the game that Moosomin is a brand new team but added they put up quite the fight Saturday in Yorkton.

Senger said the Saints are now looking at a playoff date at home this Saturday when they expect they'll be host Melville.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
